Types of Wounds

Chronic wounds - wounds which have failed to proceed through an orderly and timely reparative process to produce anatomic and functional integrity over a period of 3 months

 

Pressure ulcers - a localized injury to the skin and/or underlying tissue usually over a bony prominence, as a result of pressure, or pressure in combination with shear and/or friction

 

Venous ulcers - occur due to improper functioning of venous valves, usually of the legs. Develop mostly along the medial distal leg.


 

On the patients' first visit,

they will meet with Emily Mildes, ARNP, who will personally manage their wound care treatment plan. During the visits she will assess the wound for redness and drainage, as well as digitally photograph the area. At each subsequent visit Emily will adjust the wound treatment accordingly.

 

Treatment may include:

  • Debridement - stimulates wound healing, removes non-living tissue and removes infected tissue
  • Laboratory testing
  • Dressing instruction
  • Vacuum-Assisted wound closure
  • Infection control
